Day 1 - Travel to Las Vegas, NV

Friday, May 4, 2018

Weather: 84 degrees in Vegas when we arrived at 9:30 p.m.

Steps: Shaun - 10,163, Shannon - 4,505

The day started out with Shaun having to cut her packable items by a third down from 75 to 50 pounds. It was quite painful, but she did it with the help of two backpacks and a strong back. Her total at the airport...50 pounds. Oh yea!

Shannon flew from Boston to Detroit and met Shaun to travel to Vegas. Shaun watched the Justice League and most of the Duane Johnson version of Baywatch (which was hilarious and VERY naughty). She’ll have to catch the ending on Pay-Per-View at some point. Shannon chose the more historical Marshall with Chadwick Boseman and read books on her Kindle.

We had no problem picking up the rental car early, which was good because Dollar wanted to charge $400 extra to pick it up two hours early! The issue is that we booked the car so far in advance that the rates had changed, so when Shaun called to let them know that we’d be two hours early due to flight changes, they wanted to re-book it and charge the going rate. Luckily, Shaun spoke to a manager who suggested not changing the booking and just taking our chances at the registration desk, and he was right. It was cool because they allow you to pick your own car from anything in your class that’s in the lot. We chose a red Nissan Rogue, so we were stylin’ and beguilin’!

We stayed at the Doubletree at the airport, and once again, their warm chocolate chip cookies saved our lives because we were super hungry. Shaun had picked up Italian food for both of us at Metro, but the carmelized leek soup was yukky, and the pasta was barely passable. We didn’t get to bed until 3:30 a.m. our time, so we decided to sleep in on Saturday morning.
